Thirsk & District Museum Society

The Museum Society currently has over ninety members, all sharing an interest in local history. Even when the Museum is closed, the Society is busy organising year-round events and providing the support on which the Museum depends for its success.

Members of the Society help the Museum in several ways, by acting as part-time volunteer stewards during opening hours, maintaining the Museum building and displays, and taking part in fundraising activities. In Summer, field trips and visits are organised.

During the rest of the year there is a programme of monthly lectures and social events (details of forthcoming events can be seen in the latest newsletter). These are also open to non-members of the Society, but members enjoy free or discounted admission. They also have free, unlimited access to the Museum during normal opening times.

To support the annual programme of events and the Museum generally, members are asked to pay an annual subscription. The current rates are:

  • £7.00  for one person
  • £12.00  for two members at the same address
  • £16.50  family membership (three or more members at the same address)

The Society is always happy to welcome new members. If you would like to join, or would like to find out more about the Society, please complete our online form or contact the Honorary Secretary.
