Thirsk Museum services

In addition to its main role of collecting, conserving, documenting and displaying items reflecting the life and times of Thirsk and district, the Museum offers a range of complementary services:

  • We can advise on the identification and dating of objects.
  • We can offer advice to people tracing the history of their family, their house or the area where they live. We have access to record offices and reference libraries in Northallerton and York and can carry out research on behalf of enquirers.
  • We offer guided tours of the Museum for groups of up to thirty at a time. Tours of the Museum can be usefully combined with visits to The World of James Herriot or the 15th century Parish Church of St Mary.
  • We provide guided town walks or history trails in Thirsk and Sowerby.
  • We organise a monthly series of talks and lectures during the autumn and winter months, and evening or weekend field trips and excursions in the spring and summer.
  • We can provide speakers and ‘outreach’ facilities for clubs and societies in the district.

For further details of any of these services, please contact the curator at the Museum.
