Our pictorial archive is a unique collection of photographs, postcards and other material relating to Thirsk. Here we’ve selected some pictures of old Thirsk from the many we have available. Access to the archive is just one of several services which the Museum offers.

The pictures below are taken from the book “Around Thirsk: A Second Selection”, written by our curator Mr Cooper Harding. The book features about two hundred photographs, many of which have been carefully restored for publication. Each one is accompanied by a detailed description, creating a fascinating record of the changes in costume and custom, transport and trading, and sport and entertainment.
