Yorkshire’s Herriot Country Group

Nestling in the Vale of Mowbray between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, “Herriot Country” is an area of grand sweeping hills, rich valleys and charming towns and villages. It takes its name from the author and vet James Herriot, who lived and worked in Thirsk for many years. From this quiet corner of North Yorkshire, James Herriot drew inspiration for his tales of veterinary life. The surgery where he worked is just across the road from Thirsk Museum.
